This weekend over 45 children youth and adults offered the production of Malice in the Palace, The Story of Esther to our community in support of Lumsden Beach Camp. The last three performances had it's moments where some of us found ourselves caught in the emotion of the story and moved to tears. It was evidence of the power of story when we are truly engaged in it and offering it to others. One moment for me was when Haman knelt to pray with Queen Esther, Mordecai and the King. Haman, with his evil lies, was the character that was plotting against the people of Israel to destroy them. But when his lies caught up with him, in this version of the story, he changed his ways and gave up his power, turning it over to Mordecai. So the people of God were praying thanks and recognizing that God is with us regardless of the trials we experience, Mordecai knelt to pray as well. It was a powerful moment symbolizing the hope we can have that people can change, and turn to what is right. As always working on this production was great fun and it is a real gift to see the commitment people offer, and the joy people of all ages receive from being involved and from those who experience it. We also raised a great amount for Lumsden Beach Camp which is a very important place for so many of our children and youth. "So, let's celebrate"! God is with us, and works through us, and in us! Living out the story, helps us embody this.
