This Sunday we offered blessings to Kathy as she goes on her sabbatical for three months. As primary worship and preaching leader for Sunset who is very much loved and appreciated here, it has been challenging for some to see her go. However, it is a real gift that we are able to support her to have this time, and we are privileged to have two of us in the ministry team which enables us to continue on without having to hire full time supply ministry. I have been working with a team of people to plan the fall in such a way that our Christian Education programming, which I provide primary support to, will experience minimal impact. As a result, I have also felt very supported in my ministry and am pleased that the committee and Sunset Board has recognized that expecting me to take on the all the worship, preaching and pastoral care would mean a lot of the programming I usually offer would not be able to continue. So we have a different, yet exciting fall planned with many people who have stepped up to offer to assist with a worship service as well as a few special guests. Just as Kathy is taking this time for reflection and renewal, we are also looking at this time as an opportunity to reflect on where we are as a congregation and explore new and innovative ways we may want to offer ministry in todays culture. Two services especially will address this, on November 20 and 27. The full schedule and details of each service should be on this website soon. As we move through this time, it is my hope that we as a congregation will remain fully engaged in the community. It sometimes can be hard to keep connected when the person we are used to seeing and hearing regularly in worship is not here, but I invite those in our community to be intentional to continue to enjoy our worshipping opportunities, after all isn't is God we worship, not the minister?! It will be important that we remain a lifegiving and vital community during this time, supporting one another, and celebrating the love of God in each of us, as we experience the gifts of those who are offering worship services and supporting this community as we move through the next three months!
